I began my career in the building trade after leaving school and soon progressed into steeplejacking with a company based in Nottinghamshire. During my time there, I worked on a wide range of projects, including specialist work for English Heritage on listed properties and churches. Notably, I was involved in the renovation of Windsor Castle in the 1980s. Over the years I advanced within the company, eventually taking responsibility for leading an on-site team.After 15 years in steeplejacking, I moved into restoration and conservation, spending a further decade with a specialist company. This role involved extensive work for English Heritage, churches, architects and landmark buildings across the country. It was during this period that I refined my expertise in traditional lime mortar pointing, stonework and a wide variety of woodwork techniques.
